今天翻阅了 VSCode 的主题市场，发现之前饱受争议的 Material Theme 被标记为弃用。开发者要求用户转为 Vira Theme
然而，这个主题不是免费的。如果需要使用该主题，有一个 7 天试用，之后需要支付一次性授权费 8 欧元（约 64 人民币）。作者甚至贴心地将微信支付和支付宝放在支付方式的前两位：
主页有一个 “Cannot afford it?”，说 “觉得自己出于某些原因不能承担费用”，可以联系他们。而联系页面有一组说明：“请仅使用此表单查询信息或举报在互联网上发现的任何未经授权的 Vira 主题副本。任何其他主题都将被忽略。”
在 VSCode Marketplace 上，大量对该主题的恶评都来自该主题的收费政策，特别是作者将之前至少免费的 Material Theme 标记为弃用，且直接完全移除 Material Theme 的信息，直接要挟用户使用 Vira Theme。
如果你知道几个月前关于 Material Theme 的破事，应该明白这作者的德行和目的。
对于开源转闭源的质疑，作者甚至回怼质疑者，要求 TA “重新评估您的标准，并可能重新考虑您的评论本身”
而作者要么不予理睬，要么硬气回复：“有 7 天试用期。”（爱用不用）
当然也有人反抗差评，认为付费是值得的，作者的付出应该得到回报。
“你可能会遇到很多克隆版本，但它们都不是由原始创作者制作的，也没有得到维护。它们缺少了原始 Material Theme 中所蕴含的爱、关怀和热情”
所以呢？删除开源版本库？不顾其他九十余位贡献者的想法，强行占有他们的贡献代码？还是没有预先告知下随意更换 Apache 2.0 许可证为闭源许可证？
那么你将开源社区的 “爱、关怀和热情” 置于何处？
而现在呢？更是直接将 Material Theme 的 Github Repo 直接替换为 Vira Theme！[1]
开发者宣扬 “Material 已死，请用 Vira”，并且将 Material Theme 挫骨扬灰。
我看不到所谓的 “爱、关怀和热情”，只看到了一位急于从 Material Theme 身上榨取利益的开发者。
但正如一些评论所言：这只是一个编辑器主题而已。社区内有很多其他优秀的主题，并且是免费或开源的。
It’s wild to me that someone would choose to ruin their reputation over something as low-effort as this.
We’re talking about a collection of themes—not some high-maintenance service, not some complex backend to keep running—just themes. It’s been free for eight years, and now suddenly it’s locked behind a subscription paywall? I believe everyone agrees either a donation button or enabling sponsorships would have been a preferable alternative than trying to make a profit off something that’s always been free.
This feels greedy and tone-deaf, and is a disappointment to the VSCode community. This isn’t innovation—it’s a cash grab, and it’s a shame to see something that earned goodwill over eight years throw it all away for a few bucks.
The dev has nefarious intentions with this theme with how the roadmap has completely fallen apart by blocking the access to the older (free) version and forcing all users to a Paid and Subscription based model. This move feels less like supporting development and more like exploiting users.
The dev could have easily enabled sponsorships and donations on the original extension to keep the free version alive but they instead chose this aggressive, unethical route. It’s frustrating to see someone prioritize quick money over the community especially for some simple CSS.
至于我？很早就不再使用 Material Theme 了（因为看厌了，爆出闭源和收费的瓜后更加不可能选择它）。我现在正在使用 Catppuccin for VSCode。
